5 Laundry Room Ideas to Improve Function and Style
Small upgrades can make everyday routines feel easier and more enjoyable.
Revamping Your Laundry Room
Not every project needs to be a major remodel to make a meaningful difference. Sometimes, the most impactful upgrades happen in the rooms that quietly work the hardest — like the laundry room. These spaces often serve as drop zones, storage hubs, and cleanup stations, yet they’re frequently treated as an afterthought.
This recent laundry room refresh shows how a few thoughtful updates can completely change the feel and function of a space. Explore five laundry room remodeling ideas that can improve both style and everyday usability.
1. Lighting Changes Everything
Before: standard fluorescent lighting.
Fluorescent lighting is functional — but it’s rarely flattering. It casts a harsh tone and makes even clean spaces feel institutional.
After: layered, intentional lighting.
Swapping lighting immediately softened the room and made it feel more like an extension of the home — not a back-of-house utility zone.
Lighting isn’t just aesthetic. It affects how you feel in a space you use several times a week.

2. Counters: Having a Work Surface
Before, there was no counter space — just machines and a sink. Adding counters instantly improved functionality. Now there’s space to fold, sort, stack, and stage laundry. It sounds simple — but the daily convenience adds up quickly.
3. Integrating the Sink (Instead of a “Slop Sink”)
Utility sinks are practical. But visually, they often feel disconnected.By integrating the sink into the new countertop and cabinetry, it became part of the design — not just an afterthought. Function stayed the same. The experience improved dramatically.
4. Thoughtful Design & Storage Solutions
Instead of standard white wire shelving, we incorporated a mix of open and closed storage painted the same blue as the cabinetry.
The combination improves functionality while helping the room feel more cohesive and intentional. Closed cabinetry keeps everyday clutter tucked away, while open shelving keeps frequently used items accessible and creates opportunities for decorative storage baskets and styling touches.
Paired with the patterned wallpaper, the room gains personality without sacrificing practicality.

5. Making an Entrance
Beautiful french doors changed the first impression.
Instead of hiding the space, the new entry makes it feel like it belongs.
And that shift — from “close the door and ignore it” to “this is part of our home” — changes how you experience it.
Daily Routines, Improved
Our utility rooms work hard. We use them weekly — sometimes daily. They’re often connected to mudrooms or garages. They manage real life. So why not make them enjoyable?
