Garage ADU Conversion

Tucked along Lakeview Drive, this once-unfinished garage is now a breezy, light-filled retreat designed with the future in mind.

A Spacious Retreat—Right in Her Own Backyard

Tucked along Lakeview Drive, this once-unfinished garage is now a breezy, light-filled retreat designed with the future in mind. For the homeowner—a solo traveler at heart who loves welcoming her grandkids from time to time—this space offers freedom and flexibility. While the main house remains, the long-term plan is to enjoy this peaceful retreat full-time and rent out the house when the time is right.

What is an ADU?

An Accessory Dwelling Unit (ADU) is a smaller home built on the same property as your main house—think a cozy cottage in the backyard or a thoughtfully designed apartment above the garage. An ADU offers the best of both worlds: the freedom of your own private space with the comfort of being close to family. With single-level layouts, accessible design features, and reduced housing costs, ADUs make it easier to live in your home for years to come.

What was once an underutilized space is now a coastal-style accessory dwelling unit (ADU) that’s not only beautiful, but also thoughtfully designed for everyday comfort and long-term living.

One Space, Many Roles

Before: A storage zone with exposed ductwork and poor lighting.

An unfinished garage serving as a catch-all rather than a functional room.

After: Polished, welcoming space designed for multiple uses

This space does it all. Whether the client is enjoying her morning coffee while catching the local news, relaxing with a book, or hosting a weekend guest, the main living area is designed to multitask with ease.

One of the best parts of a project like this is seeing everything come together. In our showroom, the client and our designer laid out selections side by side, ensuring the finishes coordinated beautifully and the home felt cohesive.

Smart Design Details

A clever murphy bed is tucked behind clean white cabinetry—disguised so well, you’d never guess it’s there.

Now You See Me, Now You Don’t

We hid the electrical panel behind a mirrored door—easy to open when needed, and out of sight when not.

A palm tree decal adds a fun, coastal touch.

Thoughtful Transitions

A wide doorway with a flush threshold minimizes tripping hazards, and we especially love the double pocket doors that lead to the kitchenette—they save space and add charm. Around the doorway, a decorative tile border adds a personal touch, inspired by the homeowner’s favorite trip to Morocco.

Even Room to Exercise

A mirror and ballet bar adjacent to the closet create a thoughtful design detail that doubles as a personal spot for stretching, dance, or exercise—bringing both style and functionality into the home.

Form Meets Function

Tiling the walls to the ceiling created a true wet bath, complete with a sleek linear drain. The wall-mounted sink adds an airy feel and leaves space underneath—perfect for future flexibility if mobility ever becomes a concern. It’s all about choices that support comfort and longevity without compromising style.

Texture and pattern meet practical details—grab bars, niche, and detachable shower head.

A Home For Every Chapter

This garage-to-ADU conversion isn’t just about smart design—it’s about creating a space that reflects her lifestyle and supports what’s next. Whether she’s returning from a trip, enjoying quiet mornings at home, or planning to rent out the main house down the road, this coastal retreat is ready to meet the moment—with beauty, comfort, and purpose.
